Masese community is on the shores of Lake Victoria in Jinja district Uganda. The area is a densely populated area with 70% of its dwellers being youth of between the ages of 13-27 years. It is one of the areas that are infested with high levels of crime rates, illiteracy levels, drug abuse, unwanted pregnancies and childhood families. These are some of the challenges that led to our Executive Director to start-up SHINE WITH SKILLS FOUNDATION in a bid to help curb these challenges and spur community growth and development.
A youth himself, Ishenda Francis was born in 1992 and grew up in the same conditions that are even now prevailing. A holder of National Diploma in Electric Engineering from Jinja Vocational Training Institute formerly known as the International Development Agency IDA, is a God fearing, humble youth who grew up in situations that were not favourable. Having lived and experienced the hustles and challenges of growing up in a slum area, he broke through with the help of God and finished his Education. His gallant fight with the situations he encountered and persevered, he attracted the attention of many community elders and fellow youths who even voted him as the Guild President 2015-2016 at IDA . This leadership opportunity helped him so much realise his full potentials.
His ambition is helping youths irrespective of Gender, education level and backgrounds, religious and political orientation and economic abilities. He set up the SHINE WITH SKILLS workshop that trains youth in metal works and fabrication with the help of professional trainers who are also victims of the same challenges, located on plot 60 Oboja Road in Jinja. He is passionate about the community empowerment of young people through Economic dependence.
