Environmental education was among the activitivies we started 2 years ago.
Live & Learn’s environmental protection activities deliver low cost, community-based actions that protect biodiversity and fragile environmental regions while also providing alternative or innovative livelihood opportunities. Our projects cover environmental governance, biodiversity protection and education, invasive species management, conservation, and eco-tourism training. There is growing recognition that nature serves as the foundation for development over the long term because natural systems support our food production, clean our water, regulate our climate, and safeguard the Earth’s biodiversity. The Sustainable Development Goals show that the interlinkages between poverty eradication, basic human rights and environmental preservation are undisputable.
Sustainable Development
The concept of environmental sustainability emerged in 1987, when the World Commission on Environment and Development created the concept of “sustainable development.” That means actions that “meet the needs of present generations without compromising the needs of future generations.”
What is sustainability?
Sustainability is the avoidance of natural resource depletion to maintain biodiversity and ecological balance.
Sustainability has 3 distinct but linked elements:
Economic sustainability: Ensuring economic prosperity can be maintained over time.
Social sustainability: Ensuring all people, now and in the future, have their basic needs met.
Environmental sustainability: Ensuring non-human elements of nature, like air, water, trees, and wildlife remain healthy over time.
Our Developmental Sustainable Goal
The goal of sustainable development is to create a balance between the social, environmental, and economic needs of a person or community. A clean, healthy, and safe environment is important for everybody. This can be achieved through the reduction of poverty, pollution, unemployment, and poor housing. Activities that can spearhead the quest for sustainability include the planting of more trees, protection of resources and diversity, growing food organically, protecting the climate by using green energy, and the use of farm fodder for livestock.
To achieve sustainability, I will need to stop using firewood for cooking and embrace other environmentally friendly fuels. In addition, the utilization of the bicycle instead of a car as my common mode of transport is important. This is because it helps in reducing carbon footprint in the atmosphere. As a consumer, I should also be well informed about the process used in the manufacturing industry. Products from companies with non-sustainable measures should be avoided.
